Australian Feliks Zemdegs has been crowned 2013 Rubiks's Cube World Champion during a tense three-day event that attracted 575 competitors from 37 countries.
At the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas some of the world's fastest Rubik's Cube solvers competed in more than 15 classic and non-traditional official cubing events.
Zemdegs, 17, scored a fastest average time of 8.18 seconds for solving the classic 3x3 Cube, with a fastest single solve of 7.36 seconds, as well as winning the 4x4 and the One Handed 3x3 competitions.
Mats Valk of the Netherlands, who currently holds the world record for the fastest single solve in 5.55 seconds, came second in the 3x3 competition with an average time of 8.65 seconds, while Sebastian Weyer of Germany finished third with an average time of 8.86 seconds.
The US led the weekend's overall medal count by earning a total of 14, including six gold, four silver and four bronze. Australia and Poland followed close behind.
The bi-annual championship comprises 17 events, with the culmination being the crowning of the 3x3 champion.
Other speed events included solving the cube blindfolded; with one hand; and with one's feet.
