The veteran Bollywood actor, known for playing a police officer in countless films, died to respiratory illness on July 28
Actor Jagdish Raj, most famous in Bollywood for playing cop roles, passed away yesterday due to respiratory arrest. He was 85. He is survived by daughter Anita Raj, also a Bollywood actor.
Born Jagdish Raj Khurana in 1928 in Sargodha (now in Pakistan), the veteran essayed other character roles as well, including a villain and a judge, but was the most favourite of audiences and filmmakers when it came to playing a police officer. In fact, he holds a Guinness World Record record for this feat, having acted in 144 movies as a cop.
Jagdish acted in a number of popular films, including Johny Mera Naam, Deewar, Don, Shakti and Silsila, to name a few. His last film was Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin in 2004 where he played deputy inspector general.
Jagdish was cremated yesterday and Bollywood actors Rishi Kapoor and Suresh Oberoi attended the funeral, among other celebrities.
